The 4th annual Helper Car and Cycle Fest will take place in downtown Helper all day August 16th. A diversity of Vintage Cars, modern masterpieces and beautiful Bikes dazzle the crowd, showcasing amazing restorations and innovative paint jobs. Awards for many different classes.

Saturday, August 16
8:30-10am Late registration, Set up and sign in
10am-4pm Vehicles exhibited on Main Street

4pm-ish - Awards announced, trophies awarded

Helper Idol III


Schedule of Events:

Helper Idol has become a huge part of the Helper Arts and Music Festival and Carbon County Fair, with great cash prizes and an exciting variety of musical talent. Returning for the 3rd year, the preliminary round of the competition will take place at the Fairgrounds on August 9th at 7 p.m. Contestants will be judged for their singing ability (vocal talent), professionalism, appearance, and audience reaction.

Ten finalists will then compete Saturday, August 16th on the Main Stage in front of the festival crowd to become the first "Helper Idol"! Entrants must be at least 13 years old. With big cash prizes and an even bigger crowd, save your spot today.

Images done in or inspired by Carbon County can be entered for our juried exhibition, offering an alternative to the on-site nature of Plein Air. All entries must have been completed within the last two years. More information to follow.

Plein Air


As a crowd and artist favorite of the Helper Arts Festival, the Plein Air Competition will be returning for its 7th annual year. Plein Air, a French word meaning "In the Open Air", puts artists outside for two days to battle the elements and (rapidly drying paint). Entries are juried and available for sale at a silent auction prior to the announcement of the winners. Competition juror To Be Announced.

Schedule of Events:

Thursday, August 14
6 am - 9 am: Sign-in and Registration
Location: Helper Workshops StudioGroup building at 76 S. Main Street. Two blank surfaces (provided by the artist) will be stamped by the Plein Air Committee.
6 am: Competition begins. Submissions must be painted within the limits of Carbon and Emery counties.

Friday, August 15
6 pm: Competition ends. Hangable, finished entries must be submitted by this time.
7 pm - 9 pm: Plein Air Exhibit, Silent Auction, and guided Gallery Stroll

Saturday, August 16
8 am - 10 am: Judge's private viewing.
10 am - 9 pm: Exhibit open. Silent auction until 7 pm.
7 pm - 9 pm: Plein Air continues as part of the Gallery Stroll and Artists and Writers Reception.
6:45pm Auction closes, final blind bid accepted.
8:30 pm - Awards announced.

Sunday, August 17
Noon: Exhibit closes. Participants may collect work.

Entry Fee: $25 for all entries received before Aug. 8, 2008. $30 entry fee day of competition.
Date of Competition: Thursday, August 14, 6 am - Friday, August 15, 6 pm
Location: StudioGroup building, 76 S. Main Street

Cash Prizes: Awards will be distributed at judge's discretion.

Open Category
Allocation will be based upon participation numbers in the respective competitions. Amount to be announced.

Amateur Category
Over $500 in cash prizes and purchase awards.

Sales
Sales will be arranged following auction. 10 percent of proceeds go to the Festival.

Sculpture Slap


This live competition on Helper's Main Street creates an exciting, interactive art experience for competition entrants and festival goers. Competition juror to be announced.

Schedule of Events:

Saturday, August 16
8 am: Sign in, sculpture stand checkout, armature approval at 76 S. Main Street.
9 am - 3 pm: Competition commences.
3 pm - Competition ends. Sculpture submitted. 3 pm - 4 pm: Judging occurs. 4 pm - 9 pm: Sculptures on exhibit.
7 pm - 9 pm: Reception as part of Gallery Stroll
8:30 pm - Awards announced.

Sunday, August 17
Noon: Exhibit closes. Participants may collect work.

Entry Fee: $20 before August 8th, 2008. $25 day of competition.
